The wood is quite soft, but is still acceptably strong for light construction and utility purposes.<\/p><p>This species\u00a0was formerly thought to be only a subspecies of <a class=\"hw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/aliso-del-cerro\/\">Mexican alder <em>(Alnus jorullensis)<\/em><\/a>\u2014the two trees yield very comparable lumber.
