Gluing and finishing can be variable, and some species contain water-soluble yellow deposits in the pores which can pose challenges in staining or finishing with water-based products.<\/p><\/blockquote><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/wood-articles\/wood-odor\/\">Odor:<\/a><\/strong> No characteristic odor.<\/p><\/blockquote><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/wood-articles\/wood-allergies-and-toxicity\/\"><strong>Allergies\/Toxicity:<\/strong><\/a> Although severe reactions are quite uncommon, afzelia has been reported to cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation, as well as sneezing. Also, a handful of African species in the <em>Afzelia<\/em> genus are on the IUCN Red List. <em>Afzelia africana<\/em>, <em>A. bipindensis,<\/em> and <em>A. pachyloba<\/em> are all listed as vulnerable, while <em>A. bella<\/em> and <em>A. parviflora<\/em> are reported as being species of least concern.<\/p><\/blockquote><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #105378;\"><strong>Common Uses:<\/strong><\/span> Furniture,\u00a0cabinetry, veneer, flooring, docks, boatbuilding, exterior millwork and construction, turned objects, inlays, and other small specialty wood items.<\/p><\/blockquote><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #105378;\"><strong>Comments:<\/strong><\/span> Sometimes sold under the name doussie, afzelia has been compared to both <a class=\"hw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/honduran-mahogany\/\">mahogany<\/a> and <a class=\"hw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/teak\/\">teak<\/a> for its attractive appearance, durability, and stability.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a commercial timber, afzelia is much more frequently exported from Africa, though some highly figured pieces of <a class=\"hw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/afzelia-xylay\/\">afzelia from Asia<\/a> are also seen on the international market\u2014usually bearing the name afzelia xylay or xylay lace.\u00a0 Most afzelia burls are also of <a class=\"hw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-database.com\/afzelia-xylay\/\">Asian
